Can I put a Manual PROM in my auto ECM, after trans swap??
Will that work in my 83 TA? It was an automatic, and I put a 5-speed in it. I was wondering if the 2 PROMs are interchangable. Just because of the fact that my Check engine light comes on at sustained cruising speeds, and the code is somethig with the converter lock-up. BTW, its a carb 305...if that matters. Please let me knew though so I know whether or not to order one. Thanks.

I believe both auto and manual ECM boxes are the same. its the chips that are different. you are getting a code for the converter lock-up because the computer is looking for it to happen an dits not. i bet your idle is a little higher too. if you dont mind the SES light coming on then id say leave it alone but see if you can get the correct chip just to be safe. i paid 30 bucks for mine at the dealer
Agreed.
But try NOT to live with the SES light permantly on. If you choose to, their would really be no reason to keep the ECM. It's diagnositc abilitys are it's #1 benifit.
For less than $1000 you could ditch the ECM all together AND keep your driveability.
