2X4 intake on a third gen
so i was at iola the other day for their car show and swap meet, and while i was there i found a nice little offenhauser 2X4 barrel intake manifold, and i bought it for 150. it is not the tunnel ram you guys so don't worry about that.
ok, now fuel injection is the way of choice for most people, but for a 400 guy, it just is too expensive right now to go EFI on a 400. and you know what, the whole idea of 8 barrels on a v8 is pretty sweet in my books. just seeing two carbs on an engine in a third-gen would have to be pretty friggin' awesome to anybody.
also the look on the face of the riceburner when they see this ungodly large carb setup on a street car, they may just be afraid of it.
anyway, i was thinking of using the edelbrock 500cfm manual choke carb, and then some motown heads, the ones with the 220 intake runners for my 400 smallblock, which is in the process of being rebuilt.
now my question is, who makes a sweet a*s roller cam that would have lots of lift, and good duration for this engiine that will be allowed to breathe.
any suggestions?
thanks

have fun, ever tune 2 carbs? i'd drop the edlecrap idea and go with 450 holleys. any cam maker will make a sweet *** cam with lots of lift. it might help if you knew what you wanted or was a little more specific.

Too bad ede beats around the bush so much...
Your car will go faster with a single 4-barrel. But is you're dead set on running that intake, get the little Holleys, they're altogether superior to the Carter carbs. There's also a 390 Holley you can get that is the one they work up for the Busch series, I don't recall the list #, it's a 4150 with center-hung bowls, very sweet carb. call the Carb Shop if you're serious. Makes a great 2-4 setup for really patient people who want to try to approach what a single 4-barrel will do, not just have a bunch of stuff sticking through their hood for the looks.
Everybody makes roler cams like that, about half of Comp's catalog is those. Lunati has a great selection of sportsman type ones, Comp's are a bit more professional oriented (maybe too much for a street motor). I hope you have a set of really good heads.

Don't those Motown heads need a special intake too? I was under the impression that all of Motown's stuff was built to work only with motown stuff. Only the external dimensions and basic engine geometry were shared with a SBC.

yeah i was looking for some small holleys, but i couldn't find any for a dual quad intake.
as for the motown heads, as far as I know they are supposed to work with any sbc thing. i will do some more checking on that to make sure. if not, i am sure that i can modify that intake to fit onto the motown.
thanks for the info
