PROM question

I need a custom PROM and I heard that there are places that can sell them wholesale instead of buying direct from the manufacturer. Anyone done this? They want anywhere from $400.00 and up and that I think is kinda high...right? The only requirement is it must be done and done RIGHT. No amatures or backyard burners. Anyone got any info? Please post it. Thanks.

Eric

So...just making sure I understand what you want...you'd like to buy a mass-produced custom chip burned specifically for *your* car from a wholesaler who sells chips customized for *your* car in bulk volume and can get a discount.

Did I get it right?

Kevinc is a regular on the DIY Prom Board and while you may THINK his answer is a "smartass reply", it is also some good advice.

If you are looking for a cheap custom eprom, the only thing that will get burned is your wallet. This is why we PROHIBIT people (like you) asking for eproms, because there are too many scumsuckers that look for fools wanting a cheap custom eproms. There are no free lunches.

AND, even an EXPENSIVE custom eprom is NO WHERE near as good as an eprom you burn yourself. Unless they have HANDS ON ACCESS to YOUR CAR, there is NO WAY they can make you a good eprom IMO. I can make a "draft" eprom based on specs and it is probably better than most that you can buy. But I don't do this BECAUSE I know how much better they can be if the person burns their own eprom.

How do you plan to verify that the eprom is performing well? Do you have a scan tool? If not - GET ONE FIRST BEFORE YOU EVEN ACCEPT AN EPROM. Or you WILL BE RIPPED OFF!

PS: When people DON'T heed my warning and get RIPPED OFF, I do say "I told you so" and not too sympathetic. Don't make me say "I told you so". For the cost of custom eprom, you can get all the equipment to burn your own and get the BEST eprom you can possibly get.
