Looking for the correct 350 block
Looking for the correct 350 block
I have an 87 305 TPI IROC-Z. I'm looking to do a 383 but I don't know what year of block to buy. I bieleve that 1987 switched from the old accessory bolt location to the new accessory bolt location. I don't know what mine is. I want to be able to use all the accessories that is on the existing motor on the new motor.
Do any of you know?
Thanks

bolt holes in the block are the same as far as i know. if any accessories bolt to the block they use the bolt holes for the front style motor mounts, and that's been on them for a few years now, or the water pump has bolt holes in it.

All 350 blocks will accept all accessories. THat's not an issue. Like ede said, those bolt holes have been there for a few years now... since 1955. So make sure you get a 55-up motor.
You should be looking for a 87-up block. It will have provisions for a roller cam and will accept you current flywheel / flex plate. Ideally you'd want to find one that still has the cam & lifters still in it, so you don't have to buy new lifters; or you could re-use your existing roller lifters from your 305 in your new motor on whatever cam you end up with. Those are the issues, not bolt holes.
