Cost of New Tires P245/50R16

Hey,

Back in 2000, I bought some American Eagle tires P245/50R16 for $69 each, at a clearance sale at Walmart. I might need one new tire to get past inspection this year, so I am calling around for prices. Walmart doesn't stock them anymore, and to order them they want $154 and up.
I called the Pontiac dealer and they don't stock them !!! And they said to order, they would be $150 and up, at least.
Any suggestions of a cheap brand, or a cheap tire store ? I don't race this car, so I can be happy with a cheap tire.

Or is $150 a cheap price ? (geeze)

Or maybe I can substitute some other tire size ?

I know P255/50R16 will also fit on this rim, but they are in the same pricey zone as the P245's apparently.

Thanks,

El Cheapo

I paid about $110 apiece for some 245/50-VR16 Yokohama tires not too long ago at Discount Tire. Very nice tires, much better than any "cheap" tire.

There is no one single component that affects more aspects of a car's performance than its tires. It's about the last place I would go for the "cheapest" thing that will fit, or even the least expensive.

Contact Discount Tire! I got all 4 tires replaced and they were only $79 each. 245/50/16. I want to say they're called Avanti or something. They are made by Yokohoma. I'm very happy with them and they grip better than my BFG's did. Also check Pepboys, I heard their tires aren't bad either.

Good luck.

DONT GO TO PEP BOY!!!!!!!!!!! THERE TIRES SUCK ***!!!!! I had a set of there futura ss tires on the back of my car and unless you love to do fishtails when barely on the throttle you will hate them. Believe me, I don't think there is anyone who has tried these tires that will recommend them. If you buy these tires you will be doing this

Tire prices vary by size and brands. Go to the Tirerack web site
www.tirerack/com and ge a look at the prices for various brands.
Use these as a starting point in your search. A good brand in the size you want should NOT be over $130 per tire. And I would not spend the money for some of the tires in the previous posts.
My opinion.

I love my kumho tires, I had futura ss on the back and pirelli ss on the front. In my opinion the kumho's handle so much better than either of these tires. I did a post on here before I bought my tires and got no negative feedback at all on the kumho ecsta 712's. Everyone said they loved them and they were "hands down best bang for the buck"

I would recommend B.F. Goodrich Comp.T/A's in size 245/50/VR16. I get at least 60,000 miles per set and they grip real well on dry or wet roads. The only issue with them is when they get down to about 1/4 tread left, they do tend to hydroplane at that point. Tire Rack has them for $126 each.

Thanks, guys. So far, the least expensive tires I've found are at Pep Boys (yeah, I know they are supposedly lousy tires), $99.99 plus all the add-ons, makes it $120.00 per tire. Then there was a local tire place that had them for $130.00.
I am in Pa and there isn't any Discount Tire here. Haven't seen any "Tire Rack" stores either.
Can anyone recommend a discount tire place in Pa ?

Thanks

I bought my kumho's at merchant tire, I am pretty sure you guys have one in PA. THere is one in va, and I am here in MD so I am pretty sure you guys would have one. Like I said, I paid 125.00 per tire, that's including mounting and balancing. Go to mapquest and look in the yellow pages for a merchant tire.
