Oil Pressure

Okay, here is the problem....last night, I was comming home and as I went over a speed bump, I heard a pop.
I then looked down, and my oil pressure gauge (normally reads 30 or so at idle) was down in the red at idle. If i gave the car a little gas, the oil pressure would build to about 30 again, but I did not give it much gas. I just changed my oil this weekend to Castrol Syntec 10W30, don't know what was in it before. The car is a 1985 Trans Am with a stock 305 TPI with 92k miles and an automatic. And before you ask, I was crawling over the speed bump. I drove the car the 100 yard to my house, let it cool down some and checked the oil, and the level was still full. I restarted it to move it into the garage and it had about 15 psi, at high idle, on the gauge. Any help on this would be appreciated.

put a mechanical gauge on the engine somewhere and see what you really have, the factory gauge isn't very accurate. if you still have a problem you ought to look at the oil sender.

Maybe the oil pan got pushed up aginst the oil pump inlet screen, partially blocking flow to it.
Have you crawled under it yet?

I haven't gotten a chance to crawl under the 'bird yet. I am going to be doing that this weekend, and hooking up the pressure gauge. Thanks
