That's the correct size.
You need the right bolt. Most parts stores and speed shops have them, sometimes as a "performance" item.
DO NOT USE THE BOLT TO INSTALL THE BALANCER!!!!! You will almost certainly strip the threads. Use a balancer install tool, aka a piece of 7/16"-20 threaded rod or long bolt, nut, and big thick washer. Screw the threaded rod into the crank as far as it will go, put the washer on, and tighten the nut.
If the balancer is not on far enough to start your tool, you can beat it on GENTLY with a piece of wood to protect it from the rubber getting sheared by the shock.

I agree 100%. Take it from a guy who snapped the balancer bolt off in his crankshaft snout, along with destroying the threads.
I got "clued in" to the idea that something might be wrong, after using my breaker bar with a 3 foot pipe, and realizing I couldn't unscrew the bolt anymore! So I started unscrewing the bolt, and, SNAP!
Did I mention my mechanic welded my balancer to the crank? That was 3 years ago, still holding, but damn, did I feel stupid.
