Burning oil...diagnosis please.

Well it started a couple weeks ago when i went to change the spark plugs... the one in cylinder 3 had an unbelievable amount of a white deposit on it - - don't know how it managed to fire...

Checked my haynes manual and it said that could be caused by fuel additives or oil. I really didn't think too much of it, as that was the only bad plug. Anyways, skip forward to today when i go to change the oil. I'm pouring the oil out of the large pan back into the empty bottles.....only fill up 3 quarts worth....!! This means that I managed to burn off around 2 quarts (can't remember exactly how much our motors hold). So I managed to put 2 and 2 together and figured that its probably my valve seals?? I really don't know too much about changing them or anything, but does this sound like what the problem is??

Also, another question that has been bothering me, and i figured I should ask.... after start up, if i go to hit the throttle pretty hard (over 1/2) the car will hesitate, almost to the point of stalling, then take off. Now i'm taking a shot in the dark, but could this have been at all related to having only 3 quarts of oil in my car?? Or perhaps the cylinder being flooded w/ oil and not being able to fire??

how many miles weer on the oil? a quart a 1000 use be considered acceptable. any more i figure a quart every 2500 or so. run a compression test and leak it down and you'll know if you have a problem or not. valve seal will give you smoke on start up .

I´m not really an expert, but if your valve seals are shot then look in the mirror in the morning, when you first star the car, if they are shot threre should be a buff of blue smoak when you start the car.
About the hesetation I have the same problem. I think the fuel mixture is too rich, but I´m not shure.

I'll try and find some time this weekend to do a compression test and go from there. I'm not too sure how many miles were on the oil as this is the first time changing it since i bought it (about 2300 miles ago), but the previous owner changed all fluids religously about every month and a half to two months (had car strictly for racing)

Anyways, thanks for the help and i'll see what happens
