honing stone

which honing stone would you use to hone out cylinders? Would you use the three bladed type or the type with all of the honing ***** on the end of the wires. Which is the best? Does it really make a difference?

i have always been told to use the one with the ***** at the end of the wires. For reasons unknown, that is what i have been told. It will turn out better.

i've always heard the flex hones, or the ones with the ***** are better. i know most machine shops that i've been in have the flex hones, but most of them hone on a machine. i use the 3 stone kind and it seems to work ok for me.

I use the 3-stone kind for all except the very last step. THe stone kind forces the bores to remain straight, but the dingleberry kind won't. But it hones faster so that's why shops usually use them.

My opinion
I use the 3 stone flex hone. Had no problems with it. People I've talked to said the ball hone is easier to use and a lot harder to mess up the hone job. Stone hone can, if you're not careful, beat the **** out of your cylinders.
