Best 350 for CFI setup?

I am looking into putting in a 350 Crate Engine, but I want to ask first what type of 350 should I put in?

I have heard of the Kragen 350 Crate, Vortec and GmGoodWrench 350's. Can anyone point me in the best direction?

Thanks

Maybe I should re-frase the question. I am looking for more torque and over-all hp. I want my T/A to be strong(er). Would it be beneficial to get a 350 or play with what I have now?

My first recommendation... Ditch the CFI. It's not that CFI is inherently bad. It's just not good for what you want. You can throw a 350 on there, but you're going to get about the same performance as the 305 because you're already starving a smaller motor. I would suggest going the way of the carb. If you're not looking for something insane, Edelbrock 1406 (600cfm). For a bit more, a Holley 750 or a RoadDemon. Get an Edelbrock 7101 Performer RPM intake. Accell Blueprint HEI distributor's are nice, too. Got one in my car. Also might be a nice idea while you're at it to get a new coil. Accell makes a good one, too. Just make sure you get the right one, cuz there's two different wirings. That right there's gonna give you a bit more flow that will make your existing 305 better. The even nicer thing is... It bolts right up to the 350.

If anybody wants to correct me or add to what i have there, feel free.

Ignore the post above. FIRST, install headers, good cat back exhaust, and a later model (bigger) catalytic converter! Optimize your timing and fuel presure, replace the stock clutch fan with an electric one, and that should EASILY put you in the 14's in the 1/4. I ran 14.5 with that combo.

As for the 350, I did that "mod" years ago and it was good. It didn't increase my 1/4mi times at all (because I used a lame L05 long block), but it improve the drivability immensely, because of the huge increase in torque. A better long block choice would have netted much better results, IMO.

With a "Vortec" 350, the above mentioned exhaust, and tuning, THEN a ported intake and modded/removed swirl plates, you should be kissing high 13's

If that is not enough, THEN you will have to re-think your induction. Mid 13's are about the limit for the stock intake. See my sig for my results. The thing works fine for me.

Thanks for your replies!

Tom 400 CFI, I agree. First i'm working on the Flowmasters and an exhaust leak I have, then it's on to Tranny world where I need to rebuild mine. Come to think of it, would the 3 Speed Auto be ok? Because i've heard that the 350's chew up the 3 speed's after a while caused by the change of Torque.

My Timing is advanced right now. It feels like i'm still driving my 75 Camaro 350 lol. Personally, I want the Torque rather than "alot" more HP, so I think the 350 will be more than satisfactory. Isn't it about 300 or so lbs of torque?

GilmourD, thanks for your reply. I would like to put a 305/350 TPI in, but from what i've read in other posts, the CFI works fine if you mod the hell out of them. Plus, I get alot of compliments, mainly from Ricers.

Again, thanks for the replies. If you guys know exactly what type of Engine I should look in, please give me the info. I've seen the 300/285 350 and the 370/330 350 on GMGoodWrench.com.
