Cursed 'birds?!?
Cursed 'birds?!?
Is my car cursed? Am I cursed? LOL Does anyone out there have a car that just wasn't right? I mean you love the car, but one thing breaks so you fix it, then another thing breaks so you fix it and so on? Just waiting for the other shoe to drop?
I bought my 87 T/A when I turned 17 four years ago. It was wrecked in the front end when I bought it, so I tore it apart and had it put back together. The body shop didn't put the air dam or the baffle back in, unknown to me, so needless to say we had an overheat (in the middle of &%*$@ nowhere) and the engine was then toast. The heads had to be resurfaced and rebuilt, all the electrical on the engine melted, the sensors were all destroyed, I mean it was H-O-T! Cut to 3 years later. I have spent all my money and time rebuilding the engine into a 383 stroker. I went to put in the distributor - it was seized. I went to hook up the heater control valve - it was busted and leaking all over. The starter worked the first time and then it went out - replaced it. The engine finally got it started and it runs great. Went to push in the clutch - no pressure. The slave is leaking like mad. I mean, the entire car is like brand new now except the tranny and the rear end. Just waiting for the other shoe to drop LOL.
Anyone out there suffer like this? Share some bad luck stories so I don't feel so mad at my T/A

I bought my car (86 T-A) from a guy at work, fortunatly the body was in good shape, it had a blown motor when I bought it so I couldn't drive it to see what else was wrong. well, about two years later and $7,000.00 later it is almost new and very reliable. although I bought it with the intentions of giving it to my son (16), with so much money in it and the power it now has (for a 305) I wasn't comfortable with him having it, plus, the car really grew on me after so much time and effort went into it, I now really like (almost love) my bird, about the only thing left to do to it is paint, but, what it has now will last a few more years if need be. don't give up on your car, treat it gently and a lot TLC will make it a wonderful ride.

I bought a non third gen. After 7 miles it threw a rod. Had it rebuilt. Then the turbo took a crap. The rebuilt engine lasted 450 miles and spun a balance shaft bearing. Out it came again. Then the tranny took a chit.
Get it back in again and it ran great.......for 3 weeks. Started having issues with it suddenly dying.
finally decided to hell with it and got my GTA.

I feel your pain!!!
I bought an 86 IROC in Feburary, the guy told me it was a 383 with Corvette injectors. I didn't beleive him and drove it for about a month until I started to have problems. Long story short, the engine is now on an engine stand, and 7 cam lobes are gone. When I dropped the pan the oil pump pickup was in the bottom of it, unattached. I had to send the heads in to get screw in studs installed because the rocker studs were backing out of the heads, here I find out the guides are toast too. The only good thing that came out of this deal is the engine is actually a 383 stroker, just the time and money I have in this car is killing me! Once again, I feel your pain.

My 93 was quite mean to me not too long ago, I tore up the tranny and went to supposedly a reputable shop for a rebild, well after its rebuilt 6 months later it goes out again, they blamed the cable adjustment and such until I showed them where they had all the ***** in the valvebody in the wrong spots (Trans-go shift kit), so they made good and rebuilt it, well 6 months later it goes out again, I take it elsewhere and they rebuild it for me only for me to explde the sprag about 8 months later, then I get the tranny redone yet again and I blow a head gasket ruining one of my ported LT1 heads!!!!, ugh!
