Need help with a starting problem?

I have a 1984 TA 305 L69. It starts great cold--all the time. After the engine is hot after a drive, I'll make a quick stop and try to restart, the car does not want to turn over--it cranks VERY slowly then fires up. It always starts, but it sure doesn't sound like it wants too.
Someone suggested "heat soak"--what is that and could it be the problem? I've also been told that the starter does that because theres no heat shield--I can't believe thats normal?
Is my solenoid going dead? Help!
the car only has 30K miles on it and like I said it starts PERFECTLY--all the time when cold.
Thanks

Starter is probably damaged internally and when it gets hot, the metal expands probably making a bad internal connection worse... seen it a hundred times in my shop, same symptoms and it was always the starter
