5 ways to boost power in your car for CHEAP!!!!!
Lurch, no offense, but you are either lying, or you don't REALLY know.
When I ordered my FlowTECH headers, they came with
A) ALL new bolts.
B) The headers
C) The entire hardware kit which included flange gaskets, as well as all the bolts and nuts.
D) A FELPRO gasket which was made of mold injected poly resin and it was NOT made of FOAM or Cardboard.
The Y-pipe, like I SAID originally did NOT simply COME with the headers, but I asked them if they sold the y-pipe and they said it would be a special order. I received the Y-pipe (part number Y11101) for ~$80 some odd bucks. I also paid only $102 dollars for the FlowTECH headers. The Y-pipe by the way, is not in their catalog, you have to ask for it, and they special order it.
All in all, everything cost me a hair under $200 dollars for everything.
$200 bucks later, I had the Headers and the Y-pipe delivered to my door.
Also, I don't know why mentioned the Fireball cam, but I have personally seen the Fireball cam in their catalog too.

I am loud and opinionated so I just want to say cheapness and ghettoness is the way to go until I get that $90K a year job. I invested about $1200 in my car, and that includes buying it. One day, I too will buy all the super-light-extra-durable-uebermaximum-flow components and spend, say, $250 on a harmonic balancer, $600 on ceramic-coated-headers and $1200 on a set of extra-high-flow racing heads. I mean, let's say you invest $20K in your car. Many cars sell for a lot more than that and offer a lot less. However, until I can afford to spend $20K on a car, I'll be singing a different tune.
Reliability? Needs to last 2 years. By then I might have more cash inflow than now...

82-T/A - I am not a lier nor do I apreciate being called one. I was pointing out that the above mention headers are of marginal or questionable quality. And are inadequete for most aplications. Yours may have come with Felpro "mold injected polyresin" gaskets. The set I looked at apeared to be made of a white foam/board material. The few people I showed them to couldn't figure them out either.
You may have seen the cam you ordered in a catolog. But I have not. Besides and more my point is that line of cams is no longer sold or is special order. There are none in stock.
BTW how long ago did you do the above? Alot of ****s been changed over tha last 2 years much has to do with 9/11.

what is wrong with the pacesetters? one of my good friends has had these on his 1984 bird with a lg4 that has a cam in it, and he's ran these for over a year and a half now with no problems. when installed it was a night and day difference. the only downside was the close proximity with the heater/ac box and the hole put in it. his car currently runs low 15s at 93-94 mph. they have always worked well and were only like 275 for shorties with y pipe.
"I'm sure they are better then pacesetter though"
LOL!
Boy, does that bring back memories. I got a Pacesetter muffler for my Opel GT via Whitney about 10-12 years back. The quad exhaust pipes were welded on upside down (sweeping down at the ground rather than up following the bottom of the car). That in addition to MIG welding wire sticking out of welds in several places (long pieces). Very sloppy quality control. They took them back and I got a nice quality Ansa system instead.
You do get what you pay for with exhaust systems, I think. I have spent a lot of time dinking around with sloppy flame cut flanges that slide all over the ports. You end up having to add indexing dowels. [Just venting here]

FLOWtechs
For those of you who didn't know... I kind of doubt that the flowtechs are all that bad:
1.) They are made by Holley, I kind of doubt that they're the utter crap that some of you are saying that they are. (Although I don't doubt that there are a lot better headers out there)
2.) As far as I know, they are intended as a cheaper, more cost-effective (albeit, most likely not as good) version of Hooker headers, which is also owned by Holley.
Nobody said that they were godly, but they're not exactly made by Fisher-Price, either!

i work at advance auto parts and you can get flowtechs, dynomax, edelbrock, and hooker through them, i got my edelbrocks for 250 with my employee discount
and got my hooker cat back for 200, i bought a whole exhaust system for less than one borla cat back. I feel.....smart

Rob116, and see, that was the point....
Honestly... most 3rd gen f-bodies are pretty worn out by now. Unless you've got a REALLY REALLY nice condition Camaro / Firebird that's in pristine condition, I don't see spending assloads of money on a set of headers that won't give you THAT much more performance over the inexpensive set.
Like you said, the FlowTECHs are NOT bad headers at all, they are MUCH better than stock, night and day difference.

ok kevin so you had a bad header 10-12 years back so now ALL pacesetters are bad? i dont think so. if i wasnt going to put full lengths of my bird, i would be ordering the same exact setup as my friends full mandrel bent pacesetter exhaust from shorties to tail end of the car. thats right all the way to the back of the car mandrel bent tubes(that means no crunched tubes) for around $300. i rest my case

heddman hedders and there y pipe are all mandrel bent, then throw in the hooker cat back...hey what you know another all mandrel bent system, add it all yp and you got around 400 bucks and im pretty sure it will sound/look/perform better then pacesetters. why is it that everyone thinks that pacesetters look, sound, and perform poorly? they are basically the same as the edelbrocks for alot less money and as far as looks and sound go, the firebird in question had without a doubt the best sounding exhaust in my area out of all the thirdgens, and even sounded better than alot of hopped up fourthgens. it was by no means able to beat very many fourthgens, but that is needless to say. also how could black painted headers, and y-pipe really look that bad? but as far as performance goes, the exhaust system was by far the best power adder that was ever put on the bird(except going from 2.8L to 5.0L engine). a whole exhaust system that improves throttle response, sounds, and even looks better all for right around $300, it isnt bad at all.

I returned it via JC Whitney not directly to Pacesetter.Hey, I was in industrial sales at the time (straight commission) and they really blew it. Any company should realize that they will make mistakes. They had a golden opportunity to impress me with rectifying the situation but instead they just insisted I didn't know what I was talking about. Before I took the silly thing off I snapped a picture and sent it and a letter to their home office. Maybe somebody has since cleaned shop, so-to-speak.
Just wait till you buy an expensive auto part and it doesn't fit and looks like it was assembled by someone using a MIG welder for the first time and badly -- AND THEN SHIPPED IT OUT TO YOU LIKE THAT. Then when you call to complain they will tell you that you don't know what you are talking about. Just a guess, but I think you'll remember that company even 20 years later.
That attitude alone, regardless of whether every other product they made was perfect and cheap, is enough to sink that ship.
Just my opinion, of course.

Enkil, I know.. it's crazy...
You know, the one thing I noticed is... that, there is a huge difference between the type of people on www.nastyz28.com (2nd gen f-body board) and this board. The MAIN noticable difference are the attitudes of people.
It doesn't take a rocket scientist to realize that the people on second gen boards are generally much older.
The people on this board, for the MOST part, are younger, more out to PROVE themselves, and their self worth. So if anyone questions their knowledge, or suggests anything in a manner that maybe they didn't know, and now you're telling them.. they get upset.
On NastyZ28.com, if you tell someone something they already know, they just don't say anything about it.. and they say thanks.

Ironic that it should be called "Nasty," then.
One thing I've noticed, and this is a generalization and thus not true to everyone, but ... a lot of people find a brand they like, and defend it to the death. It's fine to like your brand, but to shoot down other brands is just unnecessary.
Some people like flowtechs, others are gonna spend a thousand on SuperDuperBrand. Some people like buying a cheap alternator from AutoZone with a lifetime warranty that they can keep replacing when it dies every six months. Others like buying a quality alternator that doesn't need a lifetime warranty because it'll never die. Whatever works for you, go with it. But don't tell others they're wrong for whatever reason.

Go to the thread on the TBI spacer. Dual snorkel intakes, TBI spacer for manifold and injector pods, larger filter, ultimate TBI mods, ram air using all factory parts for about $50 (HIGH estimate).
CHEAP mod for exhaust manifolds is to create an anti-reversionary lip by mismatching port sizes. It only costs you your time (assuming you have a die grinder and carbide bit).

I think I would rather hear honest assessments of what people think and then decide for myself.
When you receive poor quality products and service from a company, you really aren't doing the next guy a favor with your silence. Maybe that silence tends more towards a type of "schadenfreude" than people want to admit.

don't forget junk yards and swap meets. sometimes the question is not, what are the cheapest most effective mods l can do, but rather where can I find normally expensive parts for less? many times you can find amazing deals on things that would normally be very expensive. cylinder heads, intake manifolds, headers, pulleys. not long ago my brother tragically wrecked his 71 monte carlo with a built 468 bbc. it was scrapped l won't go into details, but my guess is someone walked out of the yards with a fresh complete 468 chevy for next to nothing.
