Vats or Pass Key

Does anyone know how to bypass the vats system. I've had to replace 3 pass key modules since I've had my '89 Z28 and they are so expensive. I have a tec 1 and it shows the vats module is bad. I need to know what I can do to disable it. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Are you sure it's your VATS module, and not the connections to the key's resistor pellet? I just measured the resistance of my key and put in a matching resistor between the two wires coming from the steering column.

Bypassing VATS requires a custom PROM, but that's probably more money that you want to spend at this point.

There is lots of information about VATS if you search the archives.

Yes I'm positive it's the VAt's. I replaced the key switch and the wires are attached and routed properly. The unit itself is bad I checked it by using a known good vats unit from my friend and exchanged chips in the key and it started just fine. I have heard you can have the computer chip programmed and omit the Vats from it but like you said I don't want to spend more money than I can afford. I read something a couple of years back of a way to bypass the system by splicing wires bewtween the circuit or something like that. Thank you for your input.
