New bearings or not ?
New bearings or not ?
Hey everyone. I got the oil pan off my engine, on a stand, because it was making a weird noise. I found out it was the windage tray inside it that cracked and it was getting hit by the crank. My question is... should I replace all the bearings while I have it on the stand or would that not be a good idea ? I took off a couple of the rod bearings and looked at them and they look okay, but of course they have some heat marks on them. Would the crank need to be turned to put new bearings on or should I just put the old ones back in and call it a day ? Thanx
How many miles are on the engine? It's up to you , but you should have the crank polished if you want to change the bearings. If the engine doesn't have that many miles on it, and the crank looks good, just put it back together.

I agree, it's like insurance. If you're happy with how they look, re-use them. If you're one of those nervous types, buy new ones. I've gone both ways depending on the circumstances.
