i need a combo for a 350 to go low 13's
any 1 have a combo to make a 350 go 13's in a 83 z28 with a th350 trans\3000 stall and 3.23 gears?
i want to keep the internals stock, has flattop pistons, 458\458 lift,218\218 dur @ 0.050 in. i would like to keep that cam in to. the motor is a reman from 70-74
what heads, intake, and carb should i go with? if i need a better cam what cam should i go with to.
thanx

I'd get the Comp 268XE 477/480, just got mine in and love it. You'll need full exhaust if you don't already.
Weiand Stealth intake $110 in Summit idle-7k rpms or so.
Not sure on the heads, just something with high compression would work nicely.

Since you asked don't order your cam until you pull the heads and verify flattop pistons! Now if you do have flattops the best combo would be vortech heads($450 prob.),RPM intake($175)and a 268 comp cam(this is actually a little small but the heads will only go 460 lift without machining). If you can afford to machine the heads or call Scoggin Dickey chev. and get a set for .550 lift then definitely go with the 274 extreme cam(I ran this combo with 3:73 gears,3000 stahl,750 DP,cutouts and slicks went 12:24@110 in MCSS) Remember you'll have to get self aligning rocker arms (most late model engines have them and centerbolt valve covers(pull them off a late model and have them cleaned). upside to all of this is you could make this thing LOOK stone stock with some effort(SLEEPER). You really should get some 3:73 gears being as a 3000 converter is still slipping at 23-2400 RPM at 60MPH(plus you'll love the Holeshot)
P.S. Cutouts are usually good for about 20 HP! I keep it quiet on the street (no cops just a very choppy idle) and open it up at the track!

He's right. I've got a similar setup, no complants! But If my motor was in a car I would go slightly bigger cam, say a 278/286 duration, or something like it.
amen to that i couldnt agree with Odyssey more. that combo pushes 420 horses and can be a daily driver as well. i hear a lot of people down on that cam and it is really old and outdated but with that cam only a 2000 rpm stall is required cuz the powerband is 1500-6500! that would easily put you in the mid to low 12's provided with good traction.

I saw a big heavy chevy monte carlo run 12.6 with the RPM cam and my L31 Vortec heads... I also hear a lot of people talk trash on that old-*** cam but 12.6 in a full bodied Monte with bone stock vortecs is pretty impressive.
