Need some help with harmonic balancer

Recently i noticed an odd sound coming from the engine bay, poped the hood and saw that the harmonic balancer was shooting sparks out the bottom of the car. It appears to be grinding away at the timing cover? or engine block. I took the pulley off as well as the balancer but i cant really notice anything too bad about it. Does this sound like it could be a hosed up damper or something with the crank? During removal i found 1 loose bolt in the pulley but the damper was still presed on there pretty good. I would greatly appreciate any input.

look for a shinny spot where it or whatever was rubbibg, that ought to give you a clue as to the problem.

Sounds like what happens when the blob of spooge that GM hallucinates as a moving part fails... the inertia ring goes wherever it wants to, which is usually up agains the timing cover. If that's it, you need another balancer.
