Valve Seal replacement

Hey Everyone,
i have an 88 iroc with the 5.7 350, when the car sites for a couple of hours and then I goto start it, it blows blue smoke for a few seconds, and I understand that its the valve seals. Does anyone have detailed instructions on replacing them? are they very difficullt to replace?
is there anything else I should replace while doing this?
ANyhelp would be much appreciated

so whats wrong with that answer ? How many times does a person need to type the same text. Do a search and then ask any unanswered questions. Doing the seals isnt too tough. Alot of guys here on the board have done it...your question is answered in the archives.
it's a valad answer with more opinions and options that i could ever begin to put together for you. i thought i was helping you, no wonder i get tired of answering questions for people to inept or lazy to do a search.

When I went to replace my valve seals I noticed that I had a bunch of broken valve spring dampers (those coils inside the valve spring itself). I guess it was from over reving the motor for all those years ...that gave me a good reason to get new heads and new cam
Luckily none of the broken peices got into the motor.
Instead of using compressed air I used nylon rope. I filled the cylinder as much as I could and then turned the motor over using the crank pulley until the piston came up and pinched the rope. I felt much safer doing this rather than air.
If you try to do it and aren't 100% sure on what you're doing ask here because you really don't want to screw something up and have to pull your heads off .....boy does that suck

hey 88Iroc
thanks for the post,,,,, I was on late last night and found one of you threads about the springs. This is the first one I am doing and I wanted to get alof of information on it before I tackle to problem
I am actually thinking about replacing the cam now and put aluminum heads on the car maybe next year, but still need to fix the seals now. The engine is totally stock, by replacing those two things, will I notice a big difference? and can you recommend and good ones at a resonable price?
Thanks again for yoru post
