Engine Run-on

My 86 LG4 keeps running after removing the key.

If I let it warm up, the motor gets a little shaky, then I turn off the key, and the thing just keeps turning until i put it in 1st and force the engine to stop.

I know timing is a possibility, but I want to know if a high idle would be able to cause this because when this happens the car is warmed up and my car was idling high when the worst case of this run-on happened.

I just want to know what could be most likely causing this.

sounds like you have timming issues and possibly a vacuum lead which would cause your high idle. sometimes if you adjust the idle stop screw in too far and hold the butterfly flaps open too far the engine will run on.

Where is that screw on the q-jet?
Is it accessable without taking apart the carb?

Thanks in advance

its on the driverside of the carb near the bottom of the carb, if you find the lever the throttle cable attaches to, look at the bottom of the lever and you will see the screw. it takes a trox bit to adjust it, i'm not sure what size though. you may have to remove the air cleaner housing from the carb to help you see it.
