Distribtor pick up coil
Distribtor pick up coil
Still trying to find no power problem above idle on my 92 Camaro V6, 3.1L. Problem really comes in when the engine is hot, so I checked ohms across the pick up leads in the distributor. Spec is 500 - 1500 ohms. I'm reading .38 on the 20M scale, which is almost an open. The question is, does the distributor have to be removed to change the pick up coil, or can it be done in vehicle. Thanks, FJK
I've got an aftermarket distributor that doesn't need to be removed, but I checked a reman one for our cars at autozone(not sure if it's the same for a v6), and you didn't need to remove the distributor from the car. However, I remember reading that you needed to remove it in a shop manual. I think it could go both ways. Just pull the cap off and take a look. If you can't get it off from the top it's time to pull it and dissassemble.
