what about this cam on a 305??
No.
It just won't idle, not steetable, and definatly not get a lick of MPG...
Mark A Shields is running a Comp Cams XE268 in his 305 with good results (from what he could tell...) talk with him more once his engine is back on the road and he'll tell you how he likes it...
I'd say the XE268 is as big as you'd want to go on a street 305...

TOO BIG
too big, an XE268 is too large also in a 305 IMHO,
BUT some people like big cams that won't idle, or make any power

Yeah Mark is running a 350 not a 305 anymore. Ive been looking for a cam for my 305 and may go the route JR went with the zz4 cam. You should have a very large cam selection since your 305 isnt a roller motor (correct?).

XE 256 for a streetable 305 automatic.
A few folks have run the XE 262 on a 305 but aren't unanimous in whether or not they like it. Requires 3.73 gears for sure and a loose torque converter. Or a stick.
The Crane PowerMax 260 and 266 are good choices, also. The PowerMax 272 is the Crane equivelent of the Comp XE 262, but is a newer grind with more torque and hp across the board--at least according to the ads
