Hose Burned off charcoal canister

Hey guys, i couldn't find anything like this while searching, hope you guys can help me anyway.....well i when i bought the car, the hose that leads from the charcoal canister to i guess the carb...it's labeled carb right above where the hose used to be, it looks like it's just scorched right off, nasty residue on the canister and it's just Burnt! well when i first saw that we plugged up the line as to not have any kind of vacuum leaks or anything...and ever since then it seems like it has run way overly rich, i just pulled the plug, started it and the smell of pure fuel finally went away...i'm going to go start the car in a little bit and see if it is still ok. So if the car doesn't run rich anymore with the tube unplugged will the effect the car at all? keep in mind that the hose that leads to the fuel tank is still intact and connected, it is the hose that goes from the canister to the carb(as labeled)...can anyone shed some light on this situation for me? thanks guys i know you can help me......

well the car definetly doesn't smell anymore, so i'm guessing the fuel mixture has leaned out a little....but is it safe to have that hose letting out whatever is coming out of it? can anyone help me, i don't wanna have any kind of serious problems or anything...thanks again

ummm, why not just go buy 2 ft. of new hose and run it to the port on the carb where it originally went?

and for the love of ***, please dont plug the line.

i also wouldn't leave it open either. cuz as you siad thats gas fumes coming out into the extreamly hot engine compartment.

Because the port on the charcoal canister where the hose goes is also burnt to a crisp...i don't know what could cause that, but it was like that when i bought it and i didn't notice or else i would have asked what happened. Sorry for not mentioning that fact before, but with that said what can i do about it? get a new charcoal canister? Tried that and the guy at the auto store laughed at me?!?! Said you can't get them from anywhere, i find that hard to believe, if i really need it that bad i could always go find one at the boneyard i guess, but i was hoping for a cheap simple fix....I don't want to be blown up or anything, Help lol.....thanks guys

k, well do what i did.

take off the charcoal canister, plug the port on the TB, and get two feet of i believe it is 5/16 hose - take off the hose that's plugged onto the metal line from the gas tank, attach the new hose and run it down under the fender where i zip-tied it up.

and as for the sensor, just put electrical tape over it (so water wont get to it) and zip-tie that to make it look clean, and Voila! you're done.

I see what you're saying, but the hose from the tank to the canister is still intact....its the hose that goes from the canister into the front of the intake manifold(it's carbed)...now with that hose unplugged, is that causing a vacuum leak, or is it just letting out some bad gases or what? cause as soon as i uncorked the hose from the intake the car immediately leaned out, no smell, runs better....maybe i'm repetative with what i'm saying, sorry...i just want to know if leaving the hose uncorked will cause any kind of trouble, leak, fire?? thanks a lot guys

well thats simple enough.
get a vacuum plug. and plug it up on the intake side.

i still say take the whole charcoal canister off. it's ugly and you'll be fine without it.

Well the intake part of it will be solved soon enough when i get my new intake manifold, but to take the whole canister out and just leave a hose coming from the fuel tank wide open, i don't think thats such a smart idea...it won't hurt anything to do its job with the fuel tank, might look sh1tty but oh well i'd rather not have any problems but thanks for the ideas....i just wanted to make sure that the one hose coming from the intake was ok, and not dangerous...easy fix. thanks
