please help, car wont start- vaps? ignition?

ok, one day, while out driving, i made a stop at a parking lot. when i went to start my car again, it kind of turned over, then bogged, then stopped. then smoke caame out from my hood. what happened was my power cable to the starter wore out from road vibrations and grouned out the system, frying the wire and smoke came out of my hood. i still get full power to the accessories and stereo, the only thing the car does when i try to turn it over is the temperature gauge spikes and the emergency brake light comes on only when i turn it over. no click, nothing. i was told it was the ignition, so i went and got a new one (with a chipped key, damn that vaps system!) it cost me over 90 bucks, and i tried it, and still no start, same symptoms. has anyone heard of this problem, and what could fix it? please help, my beautiful ride has been down for weeks! any help would be greatly appreciated.

Sounds to me like you need to check your negative battery cable for being connected properly, at the block end. It probably needs a new one, as the little wire that goes to the fender is probably toasted.
