Need help w/ ignition prob

I am trying to figure out if I need a new ignition switch or if I have a short somewhere. Car is '91 LO3 w/ disabled VATS. Here's what I know so far:

1) An SES light is present upon turning key,
and it stays lit

2) Using the key will not crank engine

3) If I jump the purple starter will near
the starter the car starts fine

4) If I jump the wire at the NSS, nothing
happens

5) I tested the continuity of the purple
wire from the spot on the NSS to the
near the starter where I jumped it, and
it was less than 6 ohms.

Where should I look next? What should I test next?

Any help would be greatly appreciated as I have no idea what I'm doing.

Have you checked the neutral safety switch??? That will cause the car not to crank at all, but all your normal lights to come on.

When the one on my cherokee started to go bad, I could wiggle it and get the car to start. The plug was just starting to go bad. If it is not just the plug, I really dont know how to test the switch. Some places I believe can test these like maybe Autozone or somethin. Maybe somone else on here could tell you how to test it. I am pretty sure you could probably use a voltameter or somethin.

Okay, I'm kinda retarded, so could you please elaborate on the "just disconnect the switch from column..."

Thanks,

.

ok if you drop your plastic panel under your steering column, you can acess the column bolts, (13 MM ) take those 2 bolts off wnd your steering column will come down, if you look on the left side of the column you will notice a cable comming into it from the brake pedal area, use a small screwdriver to pop the plastic hook and the cable will slide right out then if your car does the same then its not the problem, it could be a slide in your ingnition mod itself, try that and see where it gets you....
