Should CAT Glow on Inside
Should CAT Glow on Inside
Still trying to track down no power off idle on 92 Camaro V6. I have the exhaust pipe removed from the outlet of the CAT & noticed the honeycomb iside the CAT is glowing red at idle. Is this normal? The exterior of the cat is not glowing red. I really hate to cut off the cat just to see if it's restriction is causing a problem. Has anyone modifed an old O2 sensor to make it into a pressure tap? I've heard max exhaust restriction is 3 psi @ 3000 rpm. Anyone else heard this? Help!

I believe that it should glow inside as long as the outside doesn't. The catalyst inside needs to reach a certain temp in order to work properly, so unless the outside starts to glow I'd say you're fine.
