help me, extremly high oil pressure!

I changed the oil in my car ysterday, i had really bad vavle seal leaks & my car smoked pretty bad, seeing as how its 100+ over here every day, I decided to go with a thicker oil to have less smoke.

I got valvonine 20w-50, it sounds pretty thick, but I have a 176,000 mile engine.

well just now i took it for a spind and my oil pressure goes from 30 to 60, even over 60 psi & it scares the crap out of me.

is this because of the thicker oil? I put 5 quarts, was that to much? & is it dangerouse to drive my car like that???

please help

That oil is really too thick, but it's not hurting anything. Your pressure is fine too. There's nothing the matter.

For my higher mileage engines (I have one, a 454, at 260,000 miles and a 305 at 345,000 miles) I use 4 quarts of straight 30 and 1 quart of ATF.

I was really freaked. I do admit the oil I chose is thick, but my friend has that oil in 2 of his 3rd gens and they run fine. im going bck to 10w-30 next change seeing as how i'm getting a new engine bwahaha.

its interesting how you use that combination, how does it work for you???

I don't know yet, it's really too early to tell, I'll let you know whenever the motors get around to having high mileage. They're just getting broken in good now. Hell, neither one of them has been through more than about 3 transmissions, and they've each only had the timing gear strip once, so they're still young.

I wouldn't worry about it Sergio. I've been running Valvoline 20w-50 in my Z for the past 4 years. My friends have been running in their cars and my buddy's dad, who is a ASE Master Tech, swears by the stuff. In our hot climate, that stiff will work fine.

Yep, this weather sucks. I use 15w-50 Mobil 1 and seems to help oil pressure some.
