Help me remove my heater.

I searched and searched, and found nothing explaining exactly what i was wanting to do.

I want to remove my heater.... I have one of the heater hoses disconnected.. (the one that goes to the radiator). I have a hose run straight from my intake to that spot on the radiator.

What else do i need to disconnect. I guess this might explain why i've been losing a lot of coolant... it builds up in the heater core with nowhere to go?

I dont mind removing the whole heater core.. is it just 2 screws from the inside?

In texas they should not install heaters.

Thanks,
Shane

Basically the heater core is kinda of a "by-pass" of the coolant system and all you need to do is remove that hose from the intake to the radiator, install a plug in the intake and a cap for the radiator.

If i have a hose going from the intake to the radiator, shouldnt that be fine?

Don't know what part of Texas you are from, but I just came from Fort Hood. In the winter time I appreciated my heater, I thought it got kinda cold there, not freezing, but cold enough for the heater. Is there a reason you don't just replace the heater core since it is so easy to get to. That way if you ever want to sell the car(not saying you would) but if you did, you wouldnt have to tell them your heater didn't work.

The car isnt driven much at all.. It has a 500hp/500ftlb 383 stroker going in it...

my daily drive is a 01 trans am........

I want the heater out so i can remove the core and save space under the hood. i have NEVER used it in the 6 years ive had the car.

Just need to know what all to do to get it out.

The core is not under the hood, it's under the dashboard. It's a pain to take out, so just leave it there. When you put your stroker in, just plug up the manifold or waterpump inlets/outlets that used to go to the heater. That will get rid of two hoses.

If you really want to have more space, remove all the a/c stuff (if it has that).

Well i havent had it dynoed.. the guy builidng it guarantees it willl hit those numbers on an engine dyno.

I want A/C, just dont need the heater.. what is that black box on the passengers side of the engine bay near the firewall.. I saw someone removed it and put a plate there, and it looked like it added so much space. If that is the a/c blower or something, then i wont touch it.

Too hot in tx to not have a/c.

;-)

Is there any diff in having a hose going from the radiator to the intake as opposed to just blocking them both off?

Shane.

There were 2 posts on this fairly recently. One by me and one by Mark Shields. Lots of info and pictures in both that might help you out.

The thing up on the fire wall is the blower, if you want the A/C you cant take that off. Removing the heater and leaving the A/C wont give you any more space becuase the only thing you will be taking out is hoses and the core. When you Bybass, or cap off the different lines follow the path that the coolant takes and make sure your not missing something ... Like the engine oil cooler. If you have one you still want the coolant to go through that.
