Fuel pump question
hello ..i just recently installed a newAccell HEI(divorced type coil) coil and new Accel modual in my 88 TPI 350...no biggie...r&r'd both no problem..easy going.went to start the car..Vroom....went for a test drive and she lays right down on medium to hard acceleration...MAN!..WTF i said to myself...no popping or back fireing..car just won't go..kinda like a clooged cat..never had this problem before..now I have a car that turns over..but will not start..spark is there...timeing is correct..and fireing order is good also (checked 3 times) The car turns over but engine won't fire up.I have noticed the pump no longer hums when the key is turned on..the relay does click twice..once for on.."hmmmm"..then click again for off about a 3-5 sec between clicks (NO humm currently..just clicks from the relay) I also have no psi on my guage for gas.PUMP!!!!...you will probably say..but is there any other device that tells the pump to "prime" or turn on???? before i roll my sleeves up and start swearing at the task that lies ahead of me. i wonder if the pump died from the coil or modual.Hope I explained enough..will explain more if requested
thanks for your time people

You seem to have it covered...if the FP relay is clicking,, then check for 12v at the pump before yanking the fuel pump.
If no 12 at the pump, then check the output of the relay, if no 12v out of the relay, check the input and follow the source,
Good luck

If it is indeed the fuel pump are you gonna do the install the right way or are you gonna cut a hole in the floor? I knew nothing at all about my car at the time my pump went out and it took me a good day and a half to do. Id definetly get a better fuel pump while your in there instead of a stock replacement.

88355 - As someone who has done this job a couple of times (pump in my 87 and a tank replacement in my first 82 not to mention the one in my 94 Grand Am, and oh yeah the one in my 90 Chevy truck) don't get anything cheaper than a dealer pump. Those AutoZone, Checker, etc. pieces of sh*t cant handle running out of gas even once. That includes the occasional fuel slosh induced dry sump condition caused by a hard corner with low fuel. By the way, lowering my car made it's fuel pump crap out on me, or maybe it was the alignment...
Damn cars. At least yours waited until you did something to the engine or electrical system before it jacked you. LOL BTW it only took me around 4 hours to do mine this last time, of course I'd just filled up with gas the day before.
And just a little tip, even though it doesn't look like it, you do need to drop the rear diff down to get that bastard out. I tried and tried to do it with the diff bolted in, and I just couldn't get it out. Just keep a few beers on hand and when you start getting pissed off, drink one.

I still can't believe the uncanny timeing this has happened.
