Column Questions. Multi function switch, etc

Hi all,

How do you remove the column surround (shrouding, whatever) form the column to get at the insides? I think the key is to remove the ignition key cylinder, but I haven't figured out how to get it out yet.

Can anybody help?

Thanks,
Clem

additional info

I've got an '89 tilt column, an '83 tilt column, and an '83 non-tilt column. If that makes any difference.

I was actually considering replacing the '83 non-tilt column with the '89 tilt, column. Does anybody know if the '89 is a plug and play replacement for the '83 (as far as wiring goes)?

thanks,
Clem

according to hollander:

82' - 83' f-body columns are interchangeable
84' - 88' f-body columns are interchangeable
90' - 92' f-body columns are interchangeable
89' is a unique year. only 89' columns will work in an 89' f-body

berlinettas have their own unique column too.

also pay attention to features like interval wipers, cruise, tilt and whether an automatic or manual tranny car when shopping for a column
