weight might be something to consider too, along with all the chassis up grades and how much your budget is.

Assuming you can get the car with driver down to 3300 pounds, you'll need at least 380hp to the rear wheels to run 12.0

It's all based on power to weight. The lighter the car is, the less hp is required to run the same ET.

A 4000 pound Chevelle would need 460hp to run 12.0 and a 2300 pound roadster only needs 260hp.

Always assume weight is with driver. It's how much total weight the engine has to move down the track. It's nice to say you have a 3300 pound car but if you weigh another 200 pounds then you're trying to move 3500 pounds.

Going uphill? Traction/gearing/suspension is a MAJOR factor. Case in point. 91 Z28, stock bottom end 350, TRW forged 9.5:1 pistons, stock Dart Sportsman 1, Lunati hyd. roller .540 lift and 240? duration. Superram intake, 2.25" dual exhaust, Turbo 350 with 3000 stall and 4.10 gears on 10" ET Streets. Race weight with driver: 3520. Ran 11.80 @ 113. Dyno'd 342 RWHP at 6200RPM. Car ran 10.80's with 150 shot. The owner also has the world's fastest BFG Drag Radial Mustang. 8.90 @ 158 last year.

Read the original post. "my goal is to have a 12 sec street car"

There are stock eliminator cars that can run 12's with far less hp than that but to them it's all weight transfer and gearing. It then doesn't become a "street car".

And yes, you do need to upgrade suspension and driveline. You will have problems running 12's with 500hp if you spin all the way down the track.
