Rear Seal Leak

I was about to set my engine and tranny in the car this morning when I notice that I have a serious rear seal leak. I primed my engine last week to get a good flow of oil throuout the engine. Now when I use the engine hoist to jack up the engine up and the transmission tilted back the engine oil started comming out of the rear seal. I did change this oil gasket 2 time while on the engine stand because the gasket (Cork) kept pushing out of the block. the last change went with the exact torqing of the oil pan and now I have a leak from the rear seal. Is it possible to just add some RTV to stop the leak, replace the seal again, or tighten the bolts a little tigher. When I put the seal on the engine I did notice that it did not tighten down very well, so mybe I should use a thicker rear oil seal gasket if they are available.
BTW: This is a summit chrome oil pan

Presuming this in the '84 case (or anyn two-piece rear seal, your options are limited to living with the leak or replacing the seal/packing material.

However, it sounds like you may not be sure if the leak is at the rear main seal or rear of the pan gasket that straddles the rear main cap. Better make sure first.

The leak is definitly comming from the Rear Oil Seal. I just took the tranny and flexplate off the engine. Now I can get RTV to seal the seal and fill where the leak is comming from but that leave me with a question on how long will this fix last or will it last at all. I was able to identify this leak without any rotating of the engine and no pressure.

i'd be doing some research into the problem, something bad wrong is going on if oil is leaking out of it sitting still. pull the pan and inspect the gasket, pull the 5 cap and inspect the seal, make sure you have it facing the right way. i'd buy a 1 piece oil pan gasket too, lot better and lot easier to do.
