How does this combo sound?

I am going to build a 400 with vortec heads, solid roller lifters and comp XE 272 roller cam, Roller rockers (1.5), 9.75:1 compresion, Edelbrock performer RPM intake, performer 750 carb, heddman hedders with 1 5/8 primarys 3" collectors, heddman y pipe, and 3" flo-pro exhaust. The ports are going to be gasket matched.
So what do you think this will put out for torque and HP?

About 420hp @ flywheel and 450ft/lbs with out of the box Vortecs.
If you port the heads and add 2.02x 1.60 valves, you should be
right around 440/450 hp and 480ft/lbs .

I would consider using 1.6 rockers at least on the intake side.
When you port your heads they will want lift, like .600"
1.6 rockers will get you there with your chosen torquey
short duration roller cam.

I would get rid of the shorty headers (some one will buy them)and get long tubes and build your own Y pipe. You can still connect this into a 3"+ catback type exhaust.

I don't believe they usually use 2.02 / 1.60 valves in vortecs... isn't there a reason or am I wrong?

Also, I'm curious as to why you choose to use vortecs... with a solid roller setup. It sounds like your doing everything right but taking it cheap on the heads. Yet, the heads are where the power comes from.

I agree with the 425 or so though, it ought to be a good running engine, just curious about the stuff I wrote above.

Vortecs come stock with 1.94's and 1.50 valves.
Yes you can machine them for 2.02x 1.60 valves.
Vortecs are an inexpensive head (even with the needed mods)
but there is nothing cheap about them except the price -- he hee hee !.

This combination has 11 sec potential if done right.
garranteed a solid 12 sec car.

Good Luck
