I have an 89 distributor from my original roller motor but i'm using an older block with a flat tappet cam that is brand new from comp....will i run into any trouble with the gear on the cam and the gear on the distributor?

you should be fine. you need to use a bronze gear when you run an aftermarket billet steel roller cam.
