Diverter valve

I posted this on the Southwest board and no one took a stab at it.

I took the diverter valve off to get the dual snorkel on. Do you think they will look for or even know what a diverter valve is whem I take it in for inspection. I still have the air pump and cat in place.

Yes they will definitely know, that's one of the most important parts of the smog system. The only way I think you'd get away with it is if they just glance and see air lines going to the headers from the pump. Even then, you shouldn't pass.

...not to mention the VECI label affixed to the hood/radiator support. That should be a clue to them.

Here in Phoenix it is not done by mechanics. It is done by state employees. Trying to gauge their knowledge is a little harder. I would not think they would know to look. But, I will probably put it back on.

People at the state are probably idiots. Here in Cali they use a checklist, and just follow that and mark things off as they go. They could care less about the car, or what any book or manual might say... in other words if you own an early model 73 that does not have EGR but later 73's did and the state doesnt read the book and the footnote, you have to spend hours arguing with them that the vehicle you have did not come with that device. In other words, if they do the checklist thing, the diverter valve will be on it and they will look for it.

Your probably right. I will put it back on. It's a project I keep putting off anyway.
