1989 GTA Steering column housing cover replacement
How hard is it to replace steering column housing (Plastic housing that covers lock cylinder and turn signal switch. Due to failed car theft attempt on my 1989 GTA L98 Convertible the theives busted it up in about 30 seconds before i spotted the guy in my car. He got away but I got to the car in time "30 seconds is all it took!!". Don't know if he would have got it due to VAT. :lala: :lala: :lala:

'68,
The job is not really difficult, but will take you some time. The steering column will have to be removed, as well as the upper lock plate, lock cylinder, part of the tilt mechanism, etc. Soory for the size of the diagram, but you might need it for detail:

Thanks for your reply. I talked to many GM dealers about housing and was told 1989 was a one year only and was discontinued but after calling 5 dealerships one said they could get one. Looks like the lock spring is about the only thing besides the housing is messed up. The exploded illistration helps out alot. I put it into my pictures and it shrunk it down to a regular paper size .I figured out why the high beams are stuck on since it is hooked to a rod which has become disconnected. Damn thieves .Thanks again Vader!!!!
