Underdrive Pulleys
Underdrive Pulleys
I am planning on putting smaller underdrive pulleys on my car and I need to know how to tighten, loosen the belt tensioner so that I can get it off. I know it's spring loaded and I don't want this thing to fly off at me or cause damage to the car, belt, or myself. is there a special tool required for doing this?

There should be a square hole in the tensioner. Stick a 1/2" breaker bar preferably or rachet in there and twist it out of the way. You'll need to push the breaker bar over to the passenger side of the car.
Dont mess with the bolts on the tensioner. Bad idea.

thanx. Also, I hear that underdrive pulleys don't have a harmonic dampener and this can cause engine damage in the long run? Is this the case with Camaros? or do kits come with dampeners?

yep. the LS1 engines have the dampner/pulley design. in that case you would get a new balancer.
