What happened?
Recently my alternator died out and i needed to replace it, so autozone pulled up my 86 305 tpi camaro and gave me the alternator. When i went to put it in, the alternator they gave me was clocked at 12 and i needed to clock it at 3. One of the guys at autozone suggested there might have been an engine swap, the only signs of this are a hose that is not connected and my a.c. is also not connected. Is their any way to tell? Or could the alternator just have been changed and used different brackets?

That happens alot... the same alternator fits lots of different cars except for how it's "clocked", so they just keep the one in stock, and you have to move it if your car needs iit somewhere else.
