oil pressure/sending unit??
Hello all,
I have a question about my oil pressure. I have a 1989, Firebird, 305, TBI, CA emissions. New motor, less than 15K. The oil pressure gauge on the dash is acting very funny. At hot idle it reads about 32-35 psi, (which is normal to this motor), but when I take off/give it fuel the gague goes to the max limit very qucikly!!, not an even movment but very fast. The dash gague is about 6 months old, Can somebody tell me if this is the oil sending unit or what ever else I need to do to Trouble shoot this prob. Before this problem arised the max oil pressure I would get (cold motor) was 58psi then once it warms up \its about 40 psi. I really dont think the motor has over 65 psi pressure at all times. Any ideas and suggestions will be greatly appreicated. Thanks in Advance

My oil sender and stock gauge is new. At idle it is around 30-40 psi at at any amount of throttle it maxes the stock gauge at 60 psi. I dont think there is anything wrong with yours just good oil preasure. I run sae 30w Valvoline. If you run a synthetic like Mobile one the oil preasure might run a little lower due to a thinner but better oil.
