Burning smell

Hello,

Im not the most knowledgable person when it comes to cars.. Im still learning.. Anyways, when I hammer my car to the floor I get a nasty burning smell. Talking to my mechanic friend he thinks it might be my holley 750 craming too my gas into my cat, as its too big for my 305 (I didn't put it on - it was there when I bought the car).. Could this be making that smell..

Thanks..

I would think you are saying your 750 holley is too big for the 305, not the cat. Check for leaks. What kind of burining smell and what end of the car does it come from?

well.. I couldn't spot any leaks.. and I say the burning smell comes from the front half of the car.. it difficult to pin point exactly where.. and it almost smells like burning rubber, and well its not the tires, I can guareentee that.. And it sticks in the air for a minute or two.. its not something that passes right away...

If it smells like rubber, I would just go through the entire engine compartment and search for anything that might be melting against the manifolds or elsewhere on the engine. Probably not much help, but that's the first thing I'd do. Also, yes, I'd check to make sure no gas is leaking from the gaskets in your carb, maybe running down onto the motor somewhere, and burning off.

did you recently add oil to the motor? or spray any sort of lube or nut buster on or around the manifolds??? a couple times i dripped some oil down on the manifolds and it would stink like that, only when i got up to speed cuz the air would force the smell into the cabin. also once i sprayed a nut buster type spray on my manifold flanges, and it smoked and stunk like rubber for almost two days til it all burned off. not sure if that helps...just my ideas on the problem. if not any of that stuff, check like the guys said...for burnt rubber parts.
