Trying to determine Camaro type from VIN
Trying to determine Camaro type from VIN
I have an 86 Camaro here, and I'm trying to figure out which one it is. It has an LG4 engine with the 700R4 automatic. I'm pretty sure four different kinds were made with this setup. Any help?

I believe only the Zs and IROCs came with that motor.
Check your RPO codes. Is there a B4Z in there, if so it's an IROC. IROCs also had same color gfx as body. A Z28-IROC badge on the dash as well.

it's definitely not an IROC, and no B4Z in the RPO codes. It might be a Z28, but there aren't any badges for it, and no Z28 gfx. The VIN decoder here says it's a Sport Coupe/Z28. I'm not sure what that means.

you could get a sprt coupe in 86 with the LG4. a z28 will have rpo code z28 and an iroc will have B4Z. if you dont have either of those, its a sport coupe. does your car look like this?
MY BABY
HEY nice to see youve taken an interest right away about the car i owned about 7 hours earlier in the day...lol...I can tell you that through VIN verification that the car you purchased from me is deffinately a sports coupe....LG4 700r4 combo...but the only thing that eluded me is the rear....im pretty sure its a posi but a few things have made me think if might be a LSD...limited slip....some times it would leave one tire mark and sometimes two...now see the reason it eludes me is because i know some old posi's will only spin one tire sometimes but i really never jacked it up...i guess whenever i had time i was either driving it or cleaning it..lol...hope you enjoy it....and id deffinately like to run with you after finishing my next car...the 69 camaro wont be done for a few years but im in no hurry so im also working on an 88 beretta GT (insurance is cheaper) it has the FI HO Six...thing hauls *** for a FRD car...right now im rebuilding it...after i get the blower on it (from early nineties Buick GS) ill deffinately like to see what you done to her...enjoy...oh and do me a favor...ive tried to keep the interior as nice as possible...for an 86 stock seats and carpet they look damn good....but in a few months id like to run you...on the track if you will...if not maybe youll be seeing me riding around in garfield...good luck and take care of her....oh and dont be misled by the front license plate holder...its not a berlinetta lol came stock with it dont know why though...lol...im not sure of this but if anyone can tell me if fog lamps on 86 SC's were common or not...its also got T-tops (ones that dont leak!!!) rear automatic hatch release ...cargo shade....tach....ciggarette lighter and trays...power locks but no power seats...and rear defrosters...im pretty sure thats as fully loaded as a SC gets in that year...anyone want to tell me if thats common or not...im sure it is..just wondering though

Hey Jay how's it going?
Wait until you see the interior when I'm through with it, it's gonna look brand new. I'm OCD about that. I dunno how soon I'll have everything done that I want to have done, but I'll definitely take it out to a track some time. Just need to get the brakes and trans worked a bit.
I found in the RPO codes that the purple is part of the interior color... it's not from fade.
