is this a good deal? ZZ3 or...? HELP!
my motor is knocking so i need to start looking into building a new one. i have a 350 w/ edelbrock carb under the hood of my 87 camaro.
an aquaintence of mine has a ZZ3 short block (minus cam) with 1500 miles on it, he's asking $900. it came out of his personal car that was wrecked at one point.
is this a good deal or am i better building up a $200 junkyard motor? whats the signifigant difference between a "ZZ3" and any other random 350 block i might find in the newspaper or junkyard? comments/input?
btw, my friend who is building this thing with me (i have no signifigant engine knowledge) thinks that this motor with a good roller cam and iron eagle or vortec heads is the way to go. so i guess if anyone could sound off on that it would be appreciated!

Its a good deal look http://www.sdpc2000.com/cart.asp?act...id=514&pid=622
I'm not positive, but I think the ZZ3 has forged rods, hypereutectic (sp?) pistons and a cast crank, while the ZZ4 has powdered metal rods/fored crank, & hypereutectic pistons. You'll be hard pressed to build a 4 bolt 350 junkyard motor for 900 bucks with new parts and quality machining, so I think it's an OK deal. If you can get it for less though, try to. The ZZ4 short block runs around 1600 bucks new.
