strocker/engine question's
hi,
i have a 350 4 bolt main block, waiting for me to do something with it,has never been bored or anything,i need to get it cleaned up a little, but my question is,my brother used to work at our local machine shop, and he wanted to cut the metal out,for my 383 motor, should i let him do it?he said i would need to get a 400 crank, bolt it in as best as we could, turn it,to where it hits, and die grind it out?is this all they do?if so,i think im going to go ahead and let him do it,he said he has did it when he worked at there shop,im going to try to build it,so it will be ready in spring, and be able to set her into my camaro, and take that motor, and put into my s-10,so what do you guys think?
also,im looking for 450-550 horsepower,i was wondering, will it be better to go with a 9.5 comp. engine, and weiand 142 blower setup,or better to go with like10.5-11.1 compression?ill prolly go with edelbrock rpm heads, midly ported, thanks alot.

Some people have problems with the crank hitting the cam, but if you do some research you'll find what combos work. The clearancing on the block is pretty much what he said. 10.5-11.0 is pretty high for a street, pump-gas car.

yep
heres a pic of the place that need to be grinded to give a example to how much........
be sure when you mock each cylinder up that the rod you use is close as possible to the design of your new ones.....
you don't want to keep pressing your new rods on and off so use an old one....
a helpful thing to do is take and hone the pin end out so you can slide the new piston on and off if you have pressed rods.......
also to avoid cam clearence probs try to get clearenced stroker rods..........
i had to learn that one the hard way.....
