L98 rebuild
sometime in the near future I'm thinking of having the L98 rebuilt or at least get some new components.
what are some good heads and cam combos that will push around 300hp or more.
maybe Corvette Aluminum Heads? and some kind of a comp cam.
I'm the novice here so that's why I'm asking.
any help would be appreciated.
simon.

How much are you willing to spend on heads.
Sportsman IIs seem to be awesome for their price, and everyone raves about AFR heads.

I actually heard of AFR's. I might consider them.
I was looking around thunderracing.com for a bit and that's where I noticed them. as long as they flow better than stock I'll be happy.
I'm thinking of going for heads, cam, rockers, lifters, and headers. all of which I have to decide on.
this is all going to happen in about 2 years from now so I've got lots of time
the GTA's in storage right now for the winter and she's getting fixed too. I might not drive her for a long long time until I get the dough for the new stuff though.
but it'll all be worth it.

AFR 190cc SBC Street Cylinder Head
The Small Port, High Velocity Torque Monster
stock L98 heads must flow like crap. what are the numbers for them? like intake and exhaust.

I searched out some of the topics.
I understand now that the Corvette heads are not the way to go due to the EGR issue. I don't want to have to fark around too much.
we'll see I guess.
thanks.

I think that's what they said in one of the topics.
something about one being external for the corvette heads and one being internal for the old irons. something like that.
but then again I could be wrong as hell.
use the search and type in 350 heads. one of them is a corvette head discussion.
personally I think I'm leaning towards the AFR.
they flow better but are probably a bit more change.

"Upgrading an F-Body L98 from iron L98 heads to Corvette aluminum L98 heads will in essence give you a Corvette L98 which has the compression 10:1. You will have to run an external EGR just like the vettes do.
The reason the power ratings are different between the F-Body L98 and the Corvette L98 are due to the heads (flow and compression), exhaust, and simply becuase GM would never admit that the FBody has as much power as the big brother vette.
With the upgrade to aluminum L98 heads will essentially yield L98 Corvette mph's in the 1/4 but not necesarily the same ET (the Corvette suspension and therefore hookup is better)."

I brought a 350 to life just last Friday that has a couple hundred miles on it now that is just awesome. It's the second time I have been through the short block of this engine, the first time being a bad dream gone to a nightmare and I yanked it after driving 3 times around the block. but that's for another day....
Best advise I can give is read as much tech stuff as you can from this site. Buy as many books as you can they are cheap. Read, read, read.... Don't always believe every single thing you hear or read but instead study every step of the way.. Starting with which heads and then use all the info you gain to way your thoughts on a that subject. and every item afterwards..

Oh.... After I was about to buy a set of aftermarket heads I found out a friend had 16 sets of cylinder heads with one set being the 993's that lingenfilter recomended for cast production heads. They already had been clearenced for 1.6 rockers had 2.02 and 1.6 valves and the studs were pined so as to not to pull out.. So I ported and polished them and they seem great... gottum for cheap
