Cold Starting Camaros
Cold Starting Camaros
Hi I'm new to your forums here but certainly not new to Camaros this is my fourth (geeze) anyway... I have just bought a 85 Iroc with a 5.0 TPI. Every morning when I start it I have to lay into the gas to keep it from stalling. Or it takes a couple times to start. Once running it runs great with no problems. This is only after sitting for more than 5 hours. The guy who I bought the car from had changed the water pump and had not properly done something to a sensor so the check engine light is on. I'm trying to narrow down the culprit here.
What should I replace first
1. The O2 sensor
2. The 9th injector the cold start injector
3. Fuel Pump
4. Or just keep running a bunch of fuel injector through
Every post I read with these problems end with the moderator saying check for a leaky fuel injector or check o2. But no-one actually says what DOES fix it.
The car has about 99000 miles on the clock and was well maintained for the most part except for the body. I'm fixing that. What ever works I will repost here so that others benifit.
I also have a 89 RS with a 2.8 that idles all over the place and then stalls I'm thinking o2 sensor. I bought them both to combine into one good car the RS has a great body, but I love Camaros too much to send one to the boneyard unless its totally beat.

There is a tech article on this site on how to pull a code from the computer. Start off by doing that, and see what the computer is telling you. That could help you narrow down your problem. I know the cold start injector was only used one year, and while I am not sure, I think it was 87, not 85. A bad fuel pump wouldn't give you problems only when cold, it would happen all the time.
Get winaldl. It lets you hookup a laptop to your car and keep an eye on what all the sensors are reading. Do a search at google.com, you'll find all the info you need. The software is free by the way.
