Space between flexplate and torque converter?
Space between flexplate and torque converter?
I just dropped my engine in and went to bolt the TC to the flexplate, and there's a good 1/2 to 3/4 of an inch between the TC and the flexplate. The flexplate is on with the counterweight facing the engine and the bolt-hole bulges facing towards the TC. Is the TC pushed too far onto the input shaft of the tranny?

they are made like that so you can fit the tranny where it needs to go. Think if the converter was always out far enough to touch the flexplate how much harder would it have been to get the flexplate/converter AND the bellhousing/engine to line up ALL at the same TIME?
its made like that on purpose you see.
I remember once I thought I had the converter on all the way (it wasnt) and i was bolting the bellhousing to the engine using an air-ratchet and I hear BAM!!! well guess what the converter was touching the flywheel and the pressure against it cause the bellhousing to crack
oh well 5 bolts is just as good
