Well, yes the TBI heads suck. You don't need TPI heads but they'll be better.

I have a pair of heads for sale off my 350 12k miles on them, PM me for more info.

mark your heads off your 350 suck, and thats on a 350. on a 305 they would be even worse cause he would lose so much compression with those 76cc heads.

Actually they're 72cc heads, and they can be shaved.

course, if you can afford aftermarket ones, go for them, I'm just offering these cheap as an alternative, never said he should buy them.

The heads you are looking for have a casting # that ends in 081.
They will be even better after some porting and new 1.94 intake valves. These heads have the right 58cc chambers for your 305.
Might be able to buy them at a good price rebuilt from a
auto parts chain store like pep boys.

Or try Wheeler Motorsports.

LG4 or L69 heads (416 castings) have the same basic port and chamber design as the LB9 heads. The only difference is the center two intake bolts will be at a different angle, but all you have to do to fix that is elongate those bolt holes in the intake manifold.

'87 LG4 heads will be the same as LB9 heads, and have the same bolt angles as your LO3 intake manifold.

Some people might just happen to have a set of LG4 heads sitting around that they'd be willing to part with for the cost of shipping. Those heads may need a rebuild, though (guides, valve job, valve springs). Hint, hint...
