why whont it accelerate?

i tried this in the carb forum but they said it is probably not a carb problem, can anybody here help me? i have a stock 305 with an edelbrock carb, i checked the numbers and i think its a 650cfm performer, and it might have an older edelbrock intake manifold but im not sure. but anyway if u mash the gas it doesnt really do anything, it kinda spits and farts bogs a little around second, and it accelerates pretty slow, i know its not a 350 but still, shouldnt it do better than that?? i dont know what it could be, could it be the timing? and if so does anybody know what its supposed to be set at?? or maybe a prob with the cam?? the carb is set up perfect for vaccume and performance, it was run on a machine my friend had at work. i set the timing 4 degrees over center and it helped a little but not much at all.

checked the plugs wires cap and rotor lately? and ive heard that edelbbrocks get flat spots in them. if it was the cam it would more than likely take off around 2500 rpms. the other problem could be the timing. try advancing it little by little, 4 after seems a bit retarded, no pun intended. if not, and the ignition is ok, id suspect the carb. late

I wasn't aware Edel had a 650, only 600 and then 700.

I would check the choke make sure it's set properly. Then check all the wires make sure there are no cracks.

That's a lot of carburetor for a 305 on the street. Make sure the carb has vacuum secondaries and that teh secondary spring calibration is correct for your engine.
