im dumb, got a question

i was looking around on ebay for some parts and i found this C5 Corvette chassis and complete engine and tranny. i dont know much at all about corvettes, but to me it looks like the tranny is in back of the car, right in front of the rear axle. maybe i am just blind and missing something, but i am just curious about if the tranny really came in the rear of the car. to me it seems like a good idea, more weight in the back equals more traction

Yep, you're right, the tranny is in back.

There is a shaft connecting the engine to the rear axle transmission, but the trans is definitely back there. It was done largely for weight distribution and the handling benefits. The extra traction was only a byproduct.

yup, called a trans axle, if I'm not mistaken.
