Hot Cam dowel question: Not a how-to question either...
This question is about the length of the dowel. From the factory, the dowel extends .620 out of the cam for use with ?vented? optispark ignitions correct? They tell you to put it to .30 for other uses, I would imagine non-vented opti. Here is my question, for our genI SBC, it doesn't matter how long it is as long as it fits the sprocket and doesn't interfier with anything else right? It is currently about .45 but extends no further than the cam bolts, so will I be cool? That dowel is really soft steel and I don't want to beat on it again if I don't have to. Thanks
Rezinn is all over it. As long as it clears, you're o.K.
Those '93 and early '94 OptiSparks were a real F'ed up mess. No vacuum forced vent, but a drain so that road moisture could get in (¿What the hell was that about?)
You could remove and cut the dowel if you were so inclined, or grind it down as long as it's not in the engine, but if it clears the cover, forget about it.
