how to install a cam

i have been kicking around the idea of putting a performance cam in my 305 after i put on an intake manifold and headers. i was wondering how hard is it to install a cam?? im not an expert on engines and im not very experienced so should i attempt this? do you have to remove the engine? may sound dumb but i dont know ANYTHING about cams, and what cam would you guys recomend? and what kind of power gains would i get from a cam, intake manifold, and headers, i already have an edelbrock carb

I can give a quick rundown. It can be done with the engine in. But you'll have to take off the carb, intake, dist, water pump, alt, radiator, timing chain and cover and slightly bend the support bars in front the radiator.

You have to be very careful sliding the cam out not to damage the bearings.

I'd suggest a Comp 262XE cam. You do have a vacuum advance distributor right?
